Enrolments
Sydney Girls High is a selective state school. Enrolment is available to Australian citizens, permanent residents or families of diplomats. - Selection is based on academic merit.
Year 7
- Entry into Year 7 is through the Selective School Test, which is organised by the Selective Schools Unit (SSU).
- All applications are handled by the Selective Schools Unit.

- Applications for Year 7 usually open in late October when most students are in Year 5 and close in mid- November.
- The state-wide Selective School Test is normally held in March of the following year.
Years 8 - 12
- There is no test or application fee for entry into Years 8-12 at Sydney Girls High
- Applications are submitted directly to the school(s) where enrolment is sought.
- Selections are based upon the quality of applications and the supporting material provided by applicants.
- In some cases an interview may also be requested by the school.
- Application forms for entry are usually available in late June of the preceding year and the closing date is usually late July.

- Students seeking enrolment should include the following supporting documentation (where available) with their application:
- Copies of school reports for the last TWO years.
- Results from state/national competitions (e.g. Australian Maths, Science, English, Geography or Language Competitions)
- NAPLAN results
- Evidence of recent involvement in co-curricular activities (e.g. music, debating, sport, drama etc)
- A committee consisting of the Principal (or nominee), Year Adviser and Enrolment Officer (or nominee) will review the applications.
- Offers will be made to successful students in September/October for the following academic year.
- Entry to Year 8-10 is limited as vacancies only exist when a current student leaves the school.
- An additional 15-20 places are offered in Year 11.
- A short waiting list of eligible applicants is also drawn up for vacancies that may arise after the initial offers have been made.
- Any application made for entry is valid for one year only, and a new application must be submitted for subsequent years.
