Languages Other than English

COURSES OFFERED

Languages offered at Sydney Girls High School are Chinese (Mandarin), French, Japanese and Latin. In Year 7 students are required to study two languages for two periods each per week. In Year 8 students are required to study at least one language for four periods per week. Provision is made for students to study a second language in Year 8 if they wish. In Years 9 and 10 students may elect to study one or two languages for four periods per week.

In the senior years French, Japanese, Chinese and Latin are offered at 2 unit level. In Year 12 Extension Courses are available for study. 

Ancient Greek is offered as an extracurricular subject at lunchtimes.

RESOURCES

A wide range of texts, magazines, tapes, videos and computer resources are utilised.

Overseas Study Tours

Study tours to France, new Caledonia, Japan, Greece and Italy are regularly organised.

Exchange Visits

Sydney Girls High School hosts students from Japan and France on a regular basis

International  Language Festival

Held every year to celebrate the cultural diversity of the school and the languages students at S.G.H.S.
