Astronomy is the oldest and most dynamic branch of science. It deals with the biggest questions we can ask like; are we alone in the universe, how did we get here, and what is the fate of the universe and everything in it. This means that there is always something new to discover and discuss.
The SGHS Astronomy Club was established in 2004 and continues to be one of the largest school-based astronomy clubs in the southern hemisphere. This is more than just an astronomy club. It is a chance to meet new friends, develop your leadership skills, and have fun thinking about and doing interesting things.
The club is run by an elected student executive and club activities are decided by the members. Membership is free and attending more than 50% of meetings qualifies students for credit in the school's student recognition scheme.
