Students in Year 12 will apply for the full range of scholarships offered by the universities and by faculties within those universities. SGHS has a fine record of success over the years, with our students being awarded many prestigious and valuable awards, including that offered to the top academic student at the end of Year 12 by UNSW – the Academic Achievement Award; and those awarded to the students who achieve maximum ATAR ranks by both the UNSW and the University of Sydney – the Scientia Scholarship and the University Scholarship. Our students have great success also in UNSW’s Co op Scholarship and the Malcolm Chaikin Scholarship, and there are even more who apply successfully for Merit and Entry Scholarships offered by the University of Sydney. The BAccounting Co op Scholarship offered by UTS is very popular with our students as are the numerous cadetships made available by firms such as PWC, DeLoitte, KPMG etc.
Scholarship information sessions are conducted at lunchtimes during the year, with guest presenters from the major universities. Visits from leading accounting firms are also frequent. All information entering the school about scholarship-availability and deadlines is provided to the students by the Careers Adviser via newsletters and emails.
The culture of SGHS, focusing as it does on academic excellence and co curricular participation, places the students in a good position when applying for scholarships. Universities are seeking students who are intellectually capable, globally aware, effective and socially competent persons.
