The International Science Olympiads provide keen Science students with an opportunity to challenge themselves, experience Science at a University level, and a chance to represent Australia. The University of Sydney and the University of New South Wales both run lecture series covering Biology, Chemistry or Physics to prepare students for the national qualifying exam. Australian Science Innovations uses this exam to select students to train to compete in the international Biology, Chemistry and Physics Olympiads.
Several students from SGHS have represented Australia in recent years in both Biology and Chemistry. These students achieved high world rankings and top medals in these disciplines. These students often continue to be involved in the Olympiad process when they are in university by training future teams who represent Australia. Students who are interested in this activity should contact the Science faculty.
